I am new to ATVs, but needed a work horse vehicle as I have over 60 acres, some wooded and some pasture. Most is hills and getting around became impossible.
I was looking at the Yamaha Grizzly 300 but was directed to the Sportsman 400 by the folks at the dealership in Birmingham, Al. I am extremely pleased.
This ATV is a true work horse and with the 1225 towing ability, moving tree stumps and logs is no chore. The AWD 4X4 and low gear mean I can go anywhere and I mean anywhere. I have gone where you can't walk.
The price was what I wanted and with winch it was just $5,947.22 for everything, tax, fees, shipping and such. I am too cheap to buy a rack for 89 bucks so I got a 90 degree conduit and made my own which is larger, stronger and cheaper.
Next I will make a front rack. At almost 700 pounds, I don't believe one would like this ATV for a buzz-around toy, but for a vehicle that will stay with you whatever your plans, I think this is the one. I could have gone to the 500, but wouldn't have gained much, I don't think.
Upgrades/Accessories: Home make rear rack with bed liner spray paint. Winch added, self installed. The winch instructions are bad but the ATV is made with installation planned so anyone can install it.
I was able to get an actual shop manual online for $8.00 and it gives everything not in the user manual. I am happy with my new ATV and can highly recommend it to one and all.
