American Kawasaki® History

Kawasaki® as a company started in 1878 as a boat manufacturer. They branched out into trains, heavy equipment, and parts for airplanes and automobiles. Kawasaki® then branched out into America in the mid-1960s. The American Kawasaki Motorcycle Corporation built upon the legacy of Japanese manufacturing, which gave it a strong foundation to venture out into a new consumer base. The first American Kawasaki® factory was an old meat warehouse in Chicago. Soon the factory began producing two-stroke motorcycles to sell under the brand Omega. 

At the time, American riders prioritized motorcycles that were heavy and powerful. They wanted beasts of machines to tear up the open road. Kawasaki® took this in mind when they designed the Samurai and Avenger models, which offered the power and thrills the consumers sought.

Innovation of Kawasaki®

Kawasaki® became the premier manufacturer of superbikes internationally in 1969 with the release of the Mach III. In 1973, they followed up with the Z1. At the time, the Z1 was the most powerful four-cylinder and four-stroke engine built. Kawasaki motorcycles became widely successful, which allowed the company to build a unified distribution network. This led to improved customer service for the public as well as every Kawasaki® dealership and every Kawasaki® dealer.

Kawasaki® began offering personal watercraft in 1973 as a way to expand out their product offering. It wasn't long before they followed up with branching out into all-terrain vehicles. In 1985, Kawasaki® unveiled their first four-wheeled models, which offered better stability and handling. Over the years, Kawasaki continued innovating its products and expanding out their offerings.
